Not Just a Wallflower

I’m so proud to be a part of this! Check out Wallflower by one of England’s finest sculptresses CJ Munn from Masters and Munn in Kent. The piece is a snatch at £750.

Wallflower  Gypsum, acrylic, cow’s milk glaze £750 by Masters and Munn, UK

Sculptress CJ Munn explained her work after launching the wall-sculpture last month.

In her press release, CJ said “Our latest piece in the William Morris-inspired collection of sculptures is ‘Wallflower’. Inspired by a comment by arts journalist Gabriella White after she interviewed us about ‘Wearing William’ and ‘Mrs Morris’ where she commented that ‘Wallpaper is by definition a background design, we live in front of it,’. And indeed we do, although we suspect many of us have had those awkward moments, particularly in youth, where we’ve pressed our backs to the security of the nearest wall, wishing it would swallow us up or offer at least partial camouflage in some difficult social situation. Equally, many a lady has experienced that feeling of being a ‘wallflower’, waiting by the wall to be noticed, often in vain. Is our lady pressing through the wall or hiding behind it? That is for the viewer to decide.

The photograph [above] shows the piece from 3 different angles so you get a true sense of its form. In different lights, at different times of the day, shadows conceal or reveal themselves to us, so the face changes as the day passes – sometimes blending into the background more, sometimes appearing much more prominent to the naked eye. It is housed in a beautiful carved wooden frame, and fixable to the wall with mirror plate fixings. This piece is a one-of-a-kind piece, although the small collection of similarly-themed pieces will continue to expand if you would like to commission additional works for your home or workplace.
